SMU Athletics has surpassed its $125 million fundraising goal for the ACC Competitiveness Campaign, thanks partly to a $2 million commitment from Matthew H. Fleeger and the Fleeger Family Foundation. The campaign, initiated in preparation for SMU’s move to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), raised $159 million in cash and commitments in fiscal year 2024.

Fleeger’s contribution, including $1.2 million for the Weber End Zone Complex and $800,000 to close the funding gap, was critical in reaching the campaign target. This investment in facilities and resources ensures SMU’s athletic programs are poised to compete at the highest levels within the ACC.

“We are deeply grateful to Matthew H. Fleeger and the Fleeger Family Foundation for their extraordinary generosity,” said Rick Hart, SMU’s Director of Athletics. “Their support propelled us to our campaign goal and ensured sustained success for SMU Athletics.”

The ACC Competitiveness Campaign was launched to guarantee SMU’s successful transition to the ACC. The funds raised will provide crucial resources for student-athletes to excel on and off the field. Fleeger expressed his pride in the university’s progress, stating, “I’m thrilled with the future direction of SMU Athletics. There’s never been a better time to be a Mustang.”

SMU’s record-breaking fundraising year aligns with several other historic achievements for Mustang Athletics. The program set new records in season ticket sales for Ford Stadium and is projected to more than double ticket sales for the upcoming 2024-25 season. These milestones come on the heels of an eight-championship season, the most in SMU history.

Although the $125 million goal has been reached, SMU Athletics prioritizes raising additional funds to strengthen its position in the ACC further. The department encourages fans to join its Game Changer program to support season ticket sales and ensure a packed Ford Stadium in the fall.

The momentum surrounding SMU Athletics, bolstered by alumni and donor support, is expected to propel the university’s teams to new heights as they begin their journey in the ACC.
